Solitary Road

VERSE: I assumed I’d live like all the other people do
Side by side with someone in a story told by two
I made the proper promises: “forever and a day”
Imagine my surprise when it came time to turn away

CHORUS: For I must walk a solitary road
Following a melody only I can hear
Something like a signal sent in code
A compass I can count on as I navigate the years
Still, I am grateful for the moments when you held me close
And I am grateful for the moment when you let me go

VERSE: Not a challenge I have chosen, but a choice that's chosen me
To express the inexpressible with words and harmony
To search out rhyme and rhythm to reflect an honest truth
A passionate obsession that left less of me for you

CHORUS: For I must walk a solitary road
Following a melody only I can hear
Something like a signal sent in code
A compass I can count on as I navigate the years
Still, I am grateful for the moments when you held me close
And I am grateful for the moment when you let me go

BRIDGE: This illusion, passion perfect love will never end
This truth: what we shared as lovers left us best of friends
Now forward on my own with lessons learned from every loss
To find completeness in myself has been well worth the cost

CHORUS: For I must walk a solitary road
Following a melody only I can hear
Something like a signal sent in code
A compass I can count on as I navigate the years
Still, I am grateful for the moments when you held me close
And I am grateful for the moment when you let me go
