Dana Clark and Kevin Lewis are a husband and wife duo who share performing, teaching, songwriting, and recording. Dana sings and plays keyboard, mandolin, guitar, sax and a variety of flutes. Kevin plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and bass. They play a wide variety of styles and manage to make it all sound like it comes straight from the heart: blues to Beethoven, ragtime to rock, folk to jazz.

To find out where we're playing go to: THIS WEEK'S NEWSLETTER Jan 21, 2010
Dear Friends:
I won! I won! (Scroll down a bit to find out WHAT I won!) But FIRST....the details for this week: a very important gig...
GIGS THIS WEEK
POSH, Tuesday, Jan 26, 7:00 to 10:30 pm, 7959 Broadway, Suite 500, 78209, www.poshultra.com, 210-804-POSH, www.myspace.com/poshultra.
We are delighted to be returning to Posh, and we owe it all to YOU. So
many of you came out to our gig there in December that the management
sat up and took notice! They realized that because Y'ALL appreciate
our music, THEY would appreciate our music, and their REGULAR patrons
would appreciate us. By showing up at Posh you demonstrated that you
think we're worth it, and that made Posh think we're worth it! Thank
you from the bottom of my heart! This band means a lot to us, and just
like proud parents raising a child, we're nurturing this music and
watching it grow bigger and stronger and healthier. Our new band is
less than a year old, not quite a toddler, and already it is finding a
wider audience and being welcomed in new venues. We look forward to
making more new friends at POSH where the audience really appreciates
the kind of music we LOVE!!! Doors open at 6:00 pm. Admission is free until 6:30 pm, when the $5 cover begins. (Coming early means you get good seating for watching the band.)
There's a free hot buffet from 7:00 til 8:00 and drink specials all
night long. Between our sets David Munoz, Jazz Show Host from KQXT,
will be playing recordings. POSH is a one of a kind place in San Antonio,
with an audience that seems very aware of musical subtleties--just the
kind of audience that inspires the whole band to play its best! We're
even putting together some new tunes just for this gig. Yes--we're
planning to play that music that touches your heart and makes your feet
want to dance. I can't WAIT to see you there! Hugs, already!
Friday Jan 29: Then, just a few days later, we're back "home" at one of our venues that has become an old friend: Friday night, Jan 29, 9:00 to 11:45 pm we're playing the Cove. 606 W. Cypress, 78212, 227-2683, www.thecove.us.
We usually play the early shift at the Cove, but on this night we're
playing the second half of the evening. COOL! The Cove serves local,
organically grown DELICIOUS food. And the Cove is the only place we
play where you can wash your car and do your laundry between sets.
There's a playground for the kids, and ping-pong table, and outdoor
fireplace, and ICE CREAM, and...just about everything your little old
heart desires.
I won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nope. Not the lottery. Not a Grammy. Not American Idol. SOMETHING EVEN MORE ASTOUNDING!
At the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Public Awards Program Saturday night at City Council Chambers I was awarded the 2010 Baha'i Unity of Humanity Award! Without warning me first, Dottie Henderson of Unity Church
had written a glowing nomination for me, and she was so eloquent that
the committee couldn't resist! I've read over the nomination, and
Dottie seems to have the idea that I write songs about peace, personal
growth, and social justice and then live my life like I believe my own
songs! (Probably a dangerous thing sometimes!) I was so HONORED.
Thank you so much, Dottie, for recognizing that there really IS some
method to my madness! And yes, I truly do believe that music is
magic. Music is medicine. Music can work miracles. And music CAN
help us remake the world. Moreover--music with a message and
peacemaking with music is well worth the investment of my lifetime.
Unfortunately,
I couldn't make it to the award ceremony because I was too busy doing
the thing they gave me the award FOR! Yep--the band had a gig. But
did that stop them?? NO! The intrepid Dottie and Kathy Huntsman
trekked over to the gig at Tycoon Flats and presented the award on the
band's first break. I was blown away! For more info about the award,

BLESSING OF THE PEACEMAKERS
Every year at the beginning of A Season for Nonviolence the San Antonio peaceCENTER
presents a Blessing of the Peacemakers service at which we acknowledge
the past year's efforts for peace and social justice, and rededicate
ourselves to working for a better world in the future. This year the
theme is "Unity." Kevin and I and some members of Synergy will be
playing music at the event, and there will be an announcement of the
2010 San Antonio Peace Laureate. The peaceCENTER is located in the Mennonite Church, 1443 S. St. Mary's, across from Brackenridge High School.
Heading south on 281 from downtown, take the Florida exit west (it's
one way) until it crosses St. Mary's and dead-ends in the church
parking lot. The service begins at 5:30, but come at 5:00 to hear the
Buddhist Monks chanting. Following the service is the most fabulously
delicious peacePOTLUCK! For more info go to the peaceCENTER website at
www.salsa.net/peace.
PIANO RECITAL FOR STUDENTS
Sunday, Jan 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm
at the downtown Alamo Music my piano students will give a recital of
special pieces they have learned this term. Family and friends are
invited to cheer them on! Alamo Music is at 425 N. Main, 78205, corner
of Main and Martin. Free parking is across Martin Street from the
store. Phone: 224-1010. Students are invited to come by 1:45 to warm
up before the recital begins.
More info on the web:
If you like My Space we're at myspace.com/lewisandclarkmusic and you can find us on FACEBOOK.COM as "Lewis and Clark Musical Expedition." Here's something that makes me feel so 21st century when I say it: "Please friend us on Facebook!"
Coming up soon:
Friday night, Feb 26, Tycoon Flats, 2926 N. St. Marys, 320-0819, 8:00 to 11:00 pm.
We
played here last Saturday, and it was really NEAT. Don't even know
whether to call it an outdoor venue, it's so much enclosed with roofing
and a solid wood fence. However, there IS a tree growing in it, so
technically...ANYWAY, by the end of the evening a nice group of old
friends had accumulated and it was just swell. Hope to see y'all there
this time! It'll be WARMER in February! Here's what the reviewers say:
"Tycoon Flat's is a San Antonio tradition!
It's like being at a small mercado with great music and fun for the
whole family! The menu is spicy and lean! The service was fast and
friendly." "This friendly music garden is a fun
place to kick back and listen to blues, rock, acoustic, reggae, or
jazz. The burgers and such Caribbean specialties as jerk chicken are
good, too."
ALSO--Light Travelers (Kevin, Chris Pfeiffer, Kit Holmes, and me) are going to be doing a concert series in the spring. We're just right for house concert settings. You can find Light Travelers at http://www.myspace.com/thelighttravelers. Reply to this email for more information about booking Lewis and Clark or Light Travelers.
Music lessons available with Kevin or Dana. Kevin
teaches bass and guitar. I teach piano, voice, and flute. Aw, heck.
Just bring any old instrument, and we'll have a go at it. INVENT an
instrument and we'll figure out how to get music out of it.

Lewis and Clark Musical Expedition
From San Antonio Express-News article If the question, "Hi, honey, how'd it go at work?" is asked in the Dana Clark/Kevin Lewis household, it's likely to be strictly rhetorical. The singers/songwriters/music educators/multi-instrumentalists have known each other for a decade, been together as a couple for more than eight years and been married about 18 months. Though they occasionally work with other artists, their main gig is the Lewis and Clark Musical Expedition. As a duo, they fuse jazz, blues, folk, rock, classical and more. As a couple, their lives revolve around music. "Ideally, doing something you love with someone you love is the very best of life," Clark said. "Music has so often been the glue that keeps our relationship together. We can go to a gig and feel out of sorts and by about the third song that's all gone." "Onstage, Dana is one of my favorite musicians, and I get to enjoy her music a lot," Lewis said. "Offstage, I know she has massive tons of good. A lot of times it's from her lips to God's ear. Because I love Dana so much, I would say what makes her happy makes everybody happy." When they're not working together on a stage somewhere, Lewis and Clark, who are in their 50s, are often teaching music in their Highland Park home. But there is downtime. "We have what I call a snuggle recliner, a recliner built for two," Clark said. "When we watch movies together in that recliner late at night, that's the ultimate escape." -- Photo and article by Jim Beal Jr.
