Fundraising with the CDs
What CDs? What music? What message?


Glad you asked! Working with others last year to organize a citywide celebration of A Season for Nonviolence (SNV) was the catalyst that prompted me to produce "Increase the Peace," a CD of music written by Texas songwriters reflecting the message of SNV. This CD allowed us to share a message of peace and at the same time helped us raise several thousand dollars to donate to homeless services in our city.

Over the summer I recorded a CD of my own compositions, “Trust Your Heart to Lead You Home.” The songs were chosen to inspire personal growth as they encourage us to unite in common action to transform our world.

This year I became the local task force leader for A Season for Nonviolence, and my project has been “Peace Is Our Birthright,” the second CD in the series for SNV. The songs for this CD were donated by nationally known songwriters, and were carefully selected to convey a vision of peace in the world. The proceeds from peace CD sales this year go to Alamo Children’s Advocacy Center, which provides services for children who have experienced the violence of sexual abuse.

The nuts and bolts of fundraising with the CDs

Basically—you order CDs from me at a discount and offer them through your organization at full price, using the proceeds to support your own worthy causes. A variation that sometimes works well is to offer them as premiums for a specified minimum donation. That way, people are free to contribute more if they would like. This helps to emphasize your fundraising goal.

For example, “Peace Is Our Birthright” is $15 for a single copy with a progressive discount for buying in bulk. They are $11 each if you buy 10, $10 each for 20, etc. If you order as many as 40 they are just $8 each with an additional $15 for shipping. Selling them for $15 each would raise $265 for your group. Our proceeds from this CD benefit the work of SNV in San Antonio.

This year a single copy of “Increase the Peace” sells for $10, with a progressive discount for quantity that brings the price to $5 each if you order 40. (Shipping for that quantity is $10.) Your group would raise $190 by selling 40 copies. Our proceeds from this CD benefit the work of SNV in San Antonio.

 “Trust Your Heart to Lead You Home,” the CD of my compositions, is $15 for one copy, with an increasing discount for quantity that makes the price $8 each for an order of 40 ($15 shipping for 40.) Your group would raise $265 by selling 40. Proceeds from this CD go to repay my children’s college fund, from which I borrowed the money to make the CD! (Please don’t tell them!)

The important thing is that each CD is a seed of peace that raises consciousness and helps grow a culture of nonviolence in our world.
